WAYNESBURG, Pa. (February 12, 2025) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team secured a key 61-50 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Saint Vincent in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.
With Waynesburg's win and Bethany's loss to Chatham on Wednesday, the Yellow Jackets remain in contention for the final PAC Tournament spot. Waynesburg moves to 12-10 on the season and 7-10 in PAC play, two games back of Bethany with three games remaining in the regular season. Saint Vincent falls to 12-10, 11-6 PAC.
The Bearcats led for most of the first quarter before a 
Kara McFadden (Painesville, Ohio / Fairport Harding) three and a three-point play by 
Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) powered an 8-2 run that put the Jackets ahead 13-11 at the end of the period.
Waynesburg outscored the Bearcats 17-3 over the first seven-plus minutes of the second quarter to build a 30-14 advantage. Six different Jackets scored in the run with Miller and 
Aubrey Burns draining treys. The Bearcats were limited to 1-of-9 shooting and four turnovers during the course of the spurt.
Saint Vincent ended the first half on a 10-2 run to narrow Waynesburg's halftime lead to 32-24.
The Bearcats moved within six (35-29) in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Jackets held Saint Vincent without a field goal for over six minutes of game time and scored nine-straight points to lead 46-30 and were up 48-34 heading into the fourth.
 The two teams were even through the first seven minutes of the fourth. The Bearcats made a late push to cut the Waynesburg lead to 10 (57-47) with under two minutes to go but the Jackets held on for the 11-point win.
Nine different players scored for the Jackets in the win. 
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) led team or tied for the team-high in every statistical category as she had 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block.
Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W. Va. / Calvary Christian Academy) added nine points, four rebounds and two steals. Miller finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Both teams had 63 field goal attempts with Waynesburg shooting 36.5 percent while holding Saint Vincent to 31.7 percent. The Jackets held a 26-5 advantage in bench scoring and were 15-8 leaders in points off turnovers.
The victory was Waynesburg's first over the Bearcats since 2022. Saint Vincent had come into the contest with wins in 17 of the last 18 meeting before Wednesday's result.
The Jackets travel to first-place Washington & Jefferson on Saturday.
