DANVILLE, Va. (March 1) – Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) placed fifth at 174 pounds as the Waynesburg University men's wrestling team competed at the NCAA Region 4 Championships at Averett on Friday and Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets tied for 15th of 20 teams at the event with a team score of 16.5. Waynesburg tied with Randolph despite entering four fewer wrestlers. Baldwin Wallace took the team regional title with 180 points.

To qualify for a spot at the NCAA National Championships, a wrestler must record a top-three finish at his respective regional championship. Orbin reached the semifinals of the championship bracket and the consolation bracket. Both of his defeats came against eventual national qualifiers.

Orbin received the No. 2 seed in the 174-pound bracket. He notched a pin in 1:37 in his opening bout against Thiel's Anthony Joiner. He outlasted Greensboro's Adrian Soto-Perez after a sudden victory period and rideout, ultimately winning 3-2 via tiebreaker. In the championship semifinals, with an automatic bid to nationals on the line, Orbin was edged 4-2 by Ohio Northern's Adam Myers. Myers landed the deciding takedown with 20 seconds left in the final period and went on to claim the regional title via 3-0 decision in the final.

Orbin was placed in the consolation semifinals with a trip to third-place match on the line. Trailing 5-4 in the final minute of the third period against Roanoke's Xavier Preston, Orbin notched a late reversal to lead 6-5. An escape by Preston with 16 seconds left forced an overtime period. Preston earned a sudden victory win with a takedown 59 seconds into the extra period. Preston earned a 7-3 decision in the third place match to advance to nationals.

Orbin secured a 13-5 win over Washington & Lee's Jacob Wright in the fifth-place match. He scored a takedown and four-point near fall late in the second period and held off Wright with an escape, reversal and takedown in the final period to secure the match. Orbin concluded his standout sophomore season with a 42-6 overall record.

Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) went 2-2 at 157 pounds. He dropped his opening preliminary match via decision before posting a technical fall over Mount Union's Hunter Newell and a 3-1 decision over Muskingum's Zeke Poulos in the consolation bracket. His run ended in the second round of consolations against Thane McCoy of Wilmington.

Jaron Polk (Philadelphia, Pa. / Pennwood) won his opening match in the heavyweight bracket with a first period fall over Randolph's Thomas head. He bowed out after. He ran into eventual national qualifier and top overall seed Rayshawn Dixon of Ferrum and bowed out in his first consolation bout.

Ryland Parker (Summerville, S.C. / Ashley Ridge) at 125 pounds, JT Hollyfield (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny) at 149 and Ayden Bishoff (Kingwood, W.Va. / Preston) at 197 also represented the Jackets at the regional.
