BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (April 22) – The Waynesburg University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at NCAA Division II Salem on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers' (22-24) game one starter Kendall Lemley limited the Yellow Jackets (22-11) to a single hit in a 7-0 victory. The hosts secured an 8-0 run-rule victory in game two. The matchup was Waynesburg's final nonconference doubleheader of the regular season.
Game 1 – Salem 7, Waynesburg 0
Graeson Grubbs (Volant, Pa. / Wilmington) recorded Waynesburg's lone hit in the opener with a second-inning single to center field. She moved up to second on a walk by
Breanna Rice (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) but a lineout to first base turned into a double play to end the inning.
Waynesburg put a runner on second in the third and fifth innings as well but were unable to bring either home.
Salem scored two runs in the second and used a bases-clearing triple in a three-run fourth.
Madison Baker (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong) was tagged with the loss in a complete game effort. She gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Game 2 – Salem 8, Waynesburg 0 (5 innings)
The Jacket bats were quieted in the second game of the doubleheader as well. Waynesburg notched three hits, two singles by
Dilyn Roberts (Sellersburg, Indiana / Henryville) in the first and third innings and a second-inning base hit by

Salem scored seven of its eight runs in the game's first two innings, taking advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch in the first two frames.
Waynesburg put multiple runners on in the second and fourth innings but came up empty. A pop out and strikeout thwarted the Jackets in the second while a lineout turned into the double play in the fourth.
Salem tacked on a run in the fourth to get to the run-rule threshold at 8-0 after five innings.
