BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 24) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Bethany's Hummel Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Bison took a three-set victory by the scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-18.
The Yellow Jackets (1-12, 0-3) were forced to play catchup in the first set, as Bethany (5-7, 2-1) gained an early 9-5 lead. Waynesburg fought back to close the deficit to 23-22, before the Bison regained their momentum to close out the set.
Waynesburg got off on a better foot in set two and built a 16-11 advantage. However, Bethany eventually found its rhythm and tied the score at 18 before closing out the two-point triumph.
The Jackets fought hard early in the third set and gained a two-point lead. Unfortunately, the Bison went on a 12-3 run to pull away for the set and match triumph.
Junior
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) finished with a team-high nine kills. Freshman
Mallory Boyd (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) added eight successful attacks.
Senior
Riley Ruffley (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) led the Jackets with nine digs and chipped in11 assists. Junior
Ray Baniaga (Honolulu, Hawaii / Sacred Hearts) finished with a squad-best 12 assists and six digs.
The Jackets return to the court on Saturday for a home tri-match against PAC opponent Grove City at 11 a.m. and La Roche at 3 p.m.
