CRESSON, Pa. (Sept. 6) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team competed in a tri-match at Mount Aloysius on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets fell to RIT in four sets and went down 3-0 against Mount Aloysius.
Game 1 – RIT 3, Waynesburg 1 (25–12, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21)
Waynesburg were playing the catchup the entire first set, tying the Tigers twice early but never taking the lead as Behrend took the frame 25-12. The Jackets fought hard in the second set, fighting off three RIT set points before ultimately falling 27-25.
The Jackets mainly controlled the third set as the team led for the bulk of the set as they took a 25-21 victory.
Waynesburg did not go down without a fight in the fourth set as they would draw twice and take the lead at 10-9 once before falling 25-21.
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) posted 13 kills.
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) recorded 23 assists and two aces.
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) collected 10 digs, seven kills and two aces.
Game 2 – Mount Aloysius 3, Waynesburg 0 (25–7, 25–20, 25–10)
Mount Aloysius hit a scorching .348 in the first set on route to a 25-7 set win. Jackets fought hard early in the second set, drawing twice and briefly holding a 9-7 lead until the Mounties finally pulled away with a late 5-0 run to win and won 25-20 in set two.
A 12-1 run powered the Mounties to a 25-10 match-clinching win in set three..
Zadrozny led the way with six kills while Ruffley led the squad with 9 assists and 8 digs.
The Jackets (0–7) are on the road against Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
