Steubenville (January 28) - The Waynesburg University men's basketball traveled to Franciscan on Wednesday to face off in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup, but ultimately fell 87-57.
The first five minutes into the game, the Yellow Jackets (6-12, 2-7) jumped out to an early 16-8 lead over the Barons (14-4, 6-3), with senior guard Casey Keesee (Tipp City, Ohio / Bethel) leading the charge for the Jackets with seven early points. Six of the eight points for the Barons had come from free throws.
The next seven minutes were dominated by the Barons, going on a 19-3 run to take a commanding lead over the Yellow Jackets with a score of 27-19.
The final eight minutes of the first half continued to be all in favor of the Barons, finishing the half on a 23-7 drive to go into halftime leading 50-26. Keesee stayed on top of the scoring column for the Yellow Jackets in the first half finishing with 10 points.
The first seven minutes of the second half continued down the same path as much of the first half, favoring the Barons as they started on a 14-6 run making it 64-32. The next three minutes showed a better offensive showing from the Yellow Jackets on a 10-4 run, but ultimately would still be trailing by 26.
The last 10 minutes of the second half finished in favor of the Barons, 19-15 and they would go on to win the game 87-57. Keesee finished the game with 17 points and junior guard Jackson Rhodes (Christchurch, New Zealand / St. Andrews College) finished with 11.
Waynesburg will return home on Saturday, January 31st, to face Thiel on Alumni Day. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
