WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan .7) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time since Dec. 20, when it traveled to Chatham for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday. Unfortunately, a red-hot shooting start fueled a 98-73 victory by the Cougars.
Waynesburg (4-8, 0-3) never led on the night and fell behind 13-2 less than four minutes into the game, forcing the Jackets to call an early timeout.
The road team put together a 10-5 run in the early portion of the first half. Senior guard
Scott Bilovus (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) led the charge with six of those 10 points.
After Chatham (7-4, 2-1) built up a 39-20 advantage with 5:10 left to play in the opening period, the Jackets closed the half on a 13-6 run to cut the host squad's advantage down to 12 at 45-33. Bilovus led the Jackets with nine points over the first 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, the home team came out of the halftime break and outscored the Orange and Black 30-20 by the midpoint of the second half and went on to secure the conference victory.
Senior guard
Casey Keesee (Tipp City, Ohio / Bethel) emerged as the leading scorer for the Jackets with 13 points. Bilovus finished right behind him with 12 and junior
Jackson Rhodes (Christchurch, New Zealand / St. Andrews College) tossed in nine markers on the night.
The Yellow Jackets return to the road to take on fellow PAC member Allegheny on Saturday, January 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
