Women's soccer scores comeback win at Thiel

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hit the road to tangle with Thiel in a Saturday Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with the Tomcats. The Yellow Jackets overcame some early struggles to score a 3-2 victory.

Thiel (6-7-1, 2-6-1) logged the opening goal just 55 seconds into the contest. Waynesburg (7-7-1, 5-3-1) responded in the fifth minute when sophomore Miracle Hershey (Lebanon County, Pa. / New Covenant Christian) posted her second goal of the season.

The home team fired back midway through the 12th minute to move back ahead 2-1, which was also the score at halftime.

Whatever adjustments head coach George DeAugustino and his staff made at halftime turned the tide in his team's favor, as the Yellow Jackets outshot their hosts 12-4 over the final 45 minutes, with two of those attempts finding the back of the net.

The Jackets got the equalizer in the 61st minute when junior Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J. / Gloucester County Institute of Technology) set up senior Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) for her eighth goal of the year. The assist was Pepe's fourth of the campaign.

The game-winning point came in the 74th minutes when sophomore Bella Norton (Selden, N.Y. / Newfield) took a feed from senior Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and split the pipes to give her team its first and only lead of the afternoon.

Waynesburg picked up the win despite a physical game plan from the Tomcats, which committed 16 fouls to Waynesburg's three.

Junior Alex Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) won her first collegiate start in goal after making two saves over 90 minutes of action.

Waynesburg returns to John F. Wiley Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when it hosts Westminster for another PAC clash. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
