HOPING FOR A HAPPY HOMECOMING

This year's Homecoming celebration highlights an extraordinary group of men who led Waynesburg to its only team national championship in school history. Members of the 1966 NAIA national title squad will be on hand to get an up close and personal look at the current incarnation of the Yellow Jackets, swap stories and celebrate the 60th anniversary of their monumental achievement. There will also be a special pregame ceremony honoring Carl DePasqua, the team's head coach.

WILL JAYLEN MAKE THE BESTER OF HIS OPPORTUNITY?

Freshman quarterback Jaylen Bester (Atlanta, Ga. / Greenville Christian) got his first extended opportunity to lead the Waynesburg offense in week four and responded by being the first Yellow Jacket in recent memory to pass for over 100 yards and rush for more than 100. He also threw his first collegiate touchdown and drove the Jackets into position for a game-winning field goal against Westminster. Bester is expected to make his collegiate starting debut in front of the 2026 Homecoming crowd.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS

After establishing itself as one of the top passing offenses in the PAC in 2025, the Bearcats enter this weekend ranked first in scoring average (41.5 ppg) and third in passing yards per game (302.5). The engine of the attack has been the senior combination of quarterback Jake Phillips and wide receiver Chris Downs. Phillips currently ranks fourth in the league with 280.5 yards per game and has thrown nine touchdowns. Downs currently sports 13 catches for 157 yards and three scores. The Saint Vincent defense is paced by junior linebacker Nathan Parker, who ranks third in the PAC in terms of tackles per game (9.5). He also has a sack and two tackles for loss.

STEPPING UP TO THE BIG LEAGUES

Both Waynesburg and Saint Vincent have gone through the good news/bad news experience of seeing their own team members make the jump to the Division I levels of the NCAA. Former Bearcat running back Julian Walker is currently a member of the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks, while former Yellow Jacket offensive lineman Grant Murin is not only at Robert Morris, but has earned the starting job at right tackle for the Colonials.
