WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 25) – The Waynesburg University baseball team got a pair of outstanding starting pitching efforts during Wednesday's home doubleheader against Wilson College. That work on the mound led the Yellow Jackets top a sweep of the Phoenix.
Graduate student
Gavin Pratt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) got the ball in game one and allowed two runs, both of which were earned, over 4.1 innings of work. He gave up just two singles and walked four while striking out seven Wilson (0-3) hitters. Sophomore
Aydan Adamson (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) scattered four base knocks over the final 2.2 innings of work for his first collegiate save. He didn't issue a walk.
Waynesburg (4-2) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, when junior
Trent Giraffa (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) cracked an RBI single that plated senior
Jordan Mosley (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans).
The Jackets picked up the game-deciding runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman
Eli Boring (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) put his team up 2-0 when he sprinted home on a wild pitch. Two batters later, freshman
Mason Leonard (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) singled in Giraffa with the eventual game-winning score. The Orange and Black tacked on its final score of the opener when freshman
Luke Buckner (Charleston, W.Va. / St. Albans) scored on a wild pitch.
Wilson scored its only runs of the afternoon in the fifth, but Adamson was able to contain the damage and preserve the win.
Boring, Giraffa and Leonard combined for six of Waynesburg's seven hits in the win.
Senior
Ethan Erhard (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) was outstanding in game two and, like Pratt, improved to 2-0 on the season. He allowed just one hit and three walks over five innings, while striking out eight opposing hitters. The veteran righty retired 10-straight batters between innings two, three, four and five.

Hudson Pincavitch (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) pitched a scoreless sixth and sophomore
Nick Manko (Upper St. Clair, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) worked the seventh.
The Jackets got all the runs they needed in support of their outstanding pitching in the bottom of the first when they loaded the bases with two outs. Junior
Hunter Mamie (EightyFour, Pa. / Ringgold) cleared the bases with a double that made the score 3-0. Senior
Hunter Hamilton (Holbrook, Pa. / West Greene) came up with his own clutch hit when he smacked a two-run single with two outs on the board in the to put his team ahead 5-0.
Waynesburg capped the day's scoring in the bottom of the sixth when Hamilton produced another run-scoring single and later came around to score thanks to a Wilson fielding error.
Boring, Hamilton and Giraffa paced the Jacket attack in the late contest with two hits each.
Boring scored two more runs, while Hamilton and Mamie logged three RBIs each.
Waynesburg will look to ride the momentum of its latest sweep into its annual trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, which will take place from Monday, March 2, to Friday, March 6.
