WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 25) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team hosted Washington & Jefferson for its second Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match in as many days on Wednesday at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility. Though the final score doesn't reflect it, the Yellow Jackets took the Presidents to the limit during a 6-1 defeat.
After W&J (2-7, 2-0) picked up the doubles point by sweeping all three flights, the two squads locked horns in six singles flights that featured four of them going to a third set.
Sophomore
Ethan Clawson (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) battled back from dropping his first set at first singles to win set two 6-4. Unfortunately, he fell 6-3 in set three.
Sophomore
Noah Biser (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest) rebounded from a 6-3 setback in set one of his clash at the number-two spot to best the opposition 6-2, 6-1 and secure victory.
After the Presidents picked up a straight-set triumph at the number three spot, freshman
Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) bounced back from a heart-breaking 7-5 loss in set one at fourth singles to even the contest with a 6-3 victory. His opponent fired back to take set three (6-4) and the match.
W&J won at number five and number six singles, with the latter going 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, despite the best efforts of junior
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic).
Waynesburg (2-4, 1-1) plays its third match in four days when it travels to Allegheny on Friday, March 27. Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
