Men's tennis wraps up 2025-26 season at Geneva

Yellow Jackets drop heart-breaking 4-3 PAC match to Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (April 18) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team ended the season with a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Geneva. The Yellow Jackets dropped a gut wrenching 4-3 battle that began with doubles action on Thursday and wrapped up with singles play on Saturday due to poor weather.

The contest began as senior day for Waynesburg on Thursday, when Thomas Torcaso (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) was honored at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility.

The Jackets (5-11, 1-7) lost the doubles point in heartbreaking fashion. After Geneva (5-8, 3-5) claimed first doubles, sophomore Noah Biser (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest) and freshman Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) took their number-two doubles contest with a convincing 6-3 victory. The third tandem of sophomore Sam Norris (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) and junior Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) went the distance, but suffered a heart-breaking 7-6 defeat.

Waynesburg snatched away three singles victories from the Golden Tornadoes with Biser and Johnson both earning tiebreaker wins. Biser took second singles in straight sets (6-4, 7-6) and Johnson emerged on top in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-6) at the six spot. Junior Tyler Gordon (Strongsville, Ohio / OHDELA) walked away with his own three-set win at fifth singles with a score line of 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Sophomore Ethan Clawson (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) and Pohuski took losses at the first and fourth spot respectfully, while Norris fell through two tough sets in third singles which went 7-5, 6-4 to the opposition.

Waynesburg concluded the 2025-26 season the most wins in a year since the squad went 6-8 overall during the 2021-22 campaign.
