WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team traveled north to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. The Yellow Jackets fell 7-0 to the host Presidents.
W&J (5-1, 2-1) swept the doubles matches to pick up the point, before securing the overall victory in singles competition. Waynesburg (5-4, 1-3) didn't make it easy on the hosts at several of the solo flights.
Sophomore
Celeste Matsaudza (Boksburg, South Africa / St. Dominic's Catholic School) battled her opponent at first singles to the tune of a 7-5, 6-2 final score. Sophomore
Taylor Stephens (Morgantown, W.Va. / Trinity Christian) nearly took the first set in her 7-5, 6-0 setback at third singles, while junior
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) came painfully close to victory in her 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 battle at the number-four spot.
The Jackets play their third PAC match in four days tomorrow when Allegheny makes the trip to the Bechtel Family Tennis Facility. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
