Whether as a player or a coach, Anthony DeFilippo has enjoyed plenty of success on the baseball field. A large portion of his success has been achieved with the Waynesburg University program. He is currently in his second assistant coaching stint with the Yellow Jackets, which got underway prior to the 2019 campaign.
DeFilippo first made a splash at Waynesburg as an All-PAC shortstop in 2010 and 2011. The standout shortstop also served as a team captain before graduating in 2011 with a degree in Sociology. After graduation, he returned to the squad as a volunteer assistant coach, a position he held until heading to Castleton University in Vermont to become a graduate assistant coach with the Spartans before the 2017 season. DeFilippo helped guide Castleton to a pair of North Athletic Conference titles and an appearance in the NCAA regionals. DeFilippo's coaching experiences didn't end when summer rolled around, as he joined the coaching staff of the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League. The Grizzlies won the Petit Cup Championship in 2017.
After finishing his time with the Grizzlies and Spartans, DeFilippo returned to Southwestern Pennsylvania and began his second stint in the Yellow Jacket dugout.
Before beginning his collegiate career, DeFilippo was a standout at Mount Lebanon High School, which he graduated from in 2006. He earned all-section applause, and was named to the Almanac Diamond Dozen while competing for the Blue Devils. He and his teammates also enjoyed plenty of team success, as they won a WPIAL title in 2006.
