Jason Falvo, a 16-year veteran of the Waynesburg football program, is back as the team's assistant head coach. He also works with the Yellow Jacket special teams, which has featured six all-conference selections since the start of the 2012 season.
Â
Waynesburg special teams were at the forefront of the overtime victory versus Washington & Jefferson in the 2014 regular season finale. A blocked field goal by the Yellow Jackets on the first possession of overtime led to a successful 34-yard field goal by Waynesburg kicker Scott Lewis, sealing the victory for the Orange and Black.
Â
Yellow Jacket special teams also played a major role during the Yellow Jackets' 2012 season, which featured a 10-1 overall record, a co-PAC championship and a victory in the ECAC South West Bowl.
Then-senior wide receiver Christian Jackson was honored as a first-team All-PAC kick returner and his 30.65 yards per return average ranked second in the country. His mark of 8.9 yards per punt return average was also tops in the conference. Then-senior kicker Alex Henry joined Jackson as an all-conference pick, garnering second-team laurels.
In 2009 and 2010, under Falvo’s guidance, return specialist Scott Cree returned four kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns over the span of two seasons.
Â
In 2005, Falvo served as the defensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets. That season, the Waynesburg defense ranked 16th in the nation in rushing defense and led the conference in red-zone defense. The defensive unit featured three all-conference players, including all-region defensive end Mike Czerwien, who led the league in sacks.
Â
Falvo started his coaching career in 1999, serving as running backs coach at Waynesburg. After two initial years with the Yellow Jackets, he moved on to Muskingum, holding the wide receivers coach/pass-game coordinator position for two years. While with the Fighting Muskies, Falvo worked with receiver Jeremy Abney, who holds the single-season school record for receptions.
Â
Falvo returned to Waynesburg in 2003 as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach following a two-year hiatus from the program. His impact was immediate as the Yellow Jackets fielded some of the best special teams units in the conference.
Â
Falvo, a native of Washington, Pa., earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Waynesburg in 2000. He followed that with a master’s degree from Muskingum in 2003. Falvo was a standout receiver and returner for Juniata, earning first-team all-conference honors in three-straight seasons.
Â
In addition to his football duties, Falvo serves as head coach of the men’s and women’s track & field teams. In 2009 and 2013, he was named PAC Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year.
