Jason Falvo, a seven-year veteran of the Waynesburg football program, enters his second season as the Yellow Jackets’ assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator. Falvo will also serve as the wide receivers coach for Waynesburg for the second-straight season.
In his first year working with the Yellow Jacket receivers, Falvo tutored a youthful corps of receivers led by Josh Fisher and Tom Hudson. Fisher displayed a knack for the big play, averaging 14.8 yards per catch, while Hudson saw significant action in his freshman campaign.
In 2005, Falvo served as the defensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets. That season, the Waynesburg defense ranked 16th in the nation in rushing defense and led the conference in red-zone defense. The defensive unit featured three all-conference players, including all-region defensive end Mike Czerwien, who led the league in sacks.
Falvo returned to Waynesburg in 2003 as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach following a two-year hiatus from the program. His impact was immediate as the Yellow Jackets fielded some of the best special teams units in the conference.
During the conference-championship season of 2003, the Waynesburg kicker earned first-team all-conference accolades, while two other specialists were garnered honorable mention from the conference. In his second year with the special teams, Waynesburg was first in the league in punting average (36.0 average) and featured both the first-team all-conference kicker and punter.
Falvo got his start in coaching in 1999, serving as running backs coach at Waynesburg. After two initial years with the Yellow Jackets, he moved on to Muskingum, holding the wide receivers coach/pass-game coordinator position for two years. While with the Fighting Muskies, Falvo worked with receiver Jeremy Abney, who holds the single-season school record for receptions.
Falvo, a native of Washington, Pa., earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Waynesburg in 2000. He followed that with a master’s degree from Muskingum in 2003. Falvo was a standout receiver and returner for Juniata earning first-team all-conference honors in three-straight seasons.
In addition to his football duties, Falvo serves as head coach of the men’s and women’s track & field teams. Since he took over the program in 2005, the Yellow Jackets have qualified five individuals, along with the men’s 4-x-100 relay team to post-season invitationals.
Falvo resides in Waynesburg with his wife, Nikki.
