John Menhart

John Menhart enters his second year at Waynesburg as the linebackers coach.

Last season, Menhart oversaw the continued progression of juniors Dan Andreassi and Brendon Steele. Steele ranked first on the team with 84 tackles, while Andreassi was third with 61 stops. As a unit, Waynesburg’s defense ranked among the national leaders in three categories in 2006 and were in the top half of the conference in six categories.

Menhart joined the Yellow Jackets in the summer of 2006 after spending 25-plus years coaching around Greene County. Most notably, he served as head coach at Carmichaels High School for 16 years before stepping down in 2001. While working with the Mighty Mikes football program, Menhart coached Bobby Hathaway, a three-time all-conference player who went on to play linebacker at Division I West Virginia.

A native of Carmichaels, Pa., Menhart was a three-year starter at running back for Indiana University (Pa.) and earned captain honors as a senior. While at IUP, he completed his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education. He later earned his master’s degree in Administration from California University (Pa.).

While in high school at Carmichaels, Menhart earned letters in football, baseball and basketball. On the gridiron in 1973, he was tabbed WPIAL Class B Most Valuable Player after playing running back and linebacker.

Menhart serves as the curriculum coordinator at Carmichaels Area Jr./Sr. High School.

He has two children, Jami and Jonathan, a coach on the Waynesburg staff.
