Dr. L. Randy Pettit has served in a number of important roles within the Waynesburg University Department of Athletics beginning in 2012. In May of 2023, he was promoted to his current role of Associate Director of Athletics. He completed his third season as the head coach the Yellow Jacket men's and women's tennis programs in 2024-25.
Under Pettit's watch, the Yellow Jacket men's tennis team has collected four All-PAC honors, including two-time All-PAC First Team honoree Ethan Lown at No. 1 singles. Each of the Waynesburg tennis squads have had five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections over the last three seasons.
In 2012, Dr. L. Randy Pettit joined the Waynesburg University Department of Athletics as its Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and fitness center director. In 2013, he added the title of Assistant Director of Athletics, further increasing his involvement with hundreds of Yellow Jacket student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

Pettit graduated from Waynesburg University (College) in 2000 after earning a bachelor’s degree in biology before moving on to New York Chiropractic College where he earned a doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine in 2004. Following graduation, Pettit went into private practice for eight years before moving into his current position at Waynesburg.
In the spring of 2017, he earned his Masters of Education in Athletic Administration and Coaching from Waynesburg University.
During his career, Pettit has treated a wide variety of individuals, including children, high school athletes, collegiate athletes and professional football players. He was also selected to treat athletes at the prestigious Rising Star Softball tournament, which features some of the nation’s top high school players, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Pettit works closely with all 20 of Waynesburg’s varsity programs as the S&C Coordinator. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
Along with his extensive professional background, Pettit also logged seven years of experience as an assistant high school football coach following a successful playing career at nearby Waynesburg Central High School, which led to a scholarship at Fairmont State University. He earned playing time as a freshman at FSU before transferring to Waynesburg. He has also been an instructor at Penn Commercial College and is still an active instructor in the Waynesburg University Department of Biology.
Pettit is highly involved with the Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, where he serves as a lieutenant. He resides in Waynesburg with his daughter Brianna and son Lucas.
