Luis Almeida

Luis Almeida enters his first season as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Waynesburg University for the 2008-2009 season.

 

Almeida played his collegiate golf for Slippery Rock University until 2000. At “The Rock” he received the “Student Athlete Academic Recognition” for the 2000-2001 season from the athletics office.

 

He is a multiple tournament winner in South America. In addition, he played on the Brazilian National Team in 1991. At age 17, Almeida also was a three-time Carioca Cup winner in the state-wide tournament in Rio de Janeiro, winning the event twice.

 

He represented Rio de Janeiro and Brazil in the Chase Manhathan Cup and won the first category, taking fourth overall.

 

Almeida is also a successful private coach, with two of his former students having played for Stanford and Mississippi State. He uses mental coaching to suggest the importance of and expertise in the short game.

 

Along with his coaching duties, Almeida also serves as an Assistant Professor of Communication at Waynesburg University in digital media. Academically, he earned a Bachelor of Science in sports management from SRU in 2002.

 

He completed his Masters in communication education and mass media technology from Clarion in 2004. He also received a doctorate in instructional systems from Penn State University in 2008.
