After spending four years with the Waynesburg University wrestling program, Gennaro Bonaventura moved from the mat to the bench as a graduate assistant coach prior to the 2015-16 season. He took another step up the coaching ladder during the summer of 2017, when he was promoted to assistant coach.
Bonaventura enjoyed his best season on the mat during his senior campaign in 2014-15, going 20-20 overall. He spent the year as the Yellow Jackets’ starting 197-pounder and scored three victories by pin and one win by technical fall. Over his time in orange and black, Bonaventura was a part of three PAC championship teams (2011, 13,14) The native of Commack, New York, was also a four-year member of the Waynesburg University football team. He was part of the 10-1 2012 PAC Conference championship team and ECAC Southwest Bowl Championship squad.

The former two-sport Jacket athlete is a 2010 graduate of Hauppauge High School, where he wrestled (three-year letter winner) and played football (two-year letter winner), baseball, lacrosse (two-year letter winner) and basketball.Â

After graduating with his undergraduate degree in Sports Management in 2015, Bonaventura completed a Master of Education Degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching in the spring of 2017.Â
Bonaventura also serves as head equipment manager and head women's lacrosse coach at Waynesburg University. He is married to his wife Heather, who is also employed by Waynesburg University in the business office. They are the proud parents of their son Colt.
