Michelle Cross returns for her 11th year of coaching at Waynesburg University. She recently completed another successful year as an assistant cross country coach and will begin her fourth season as the head men's and women's track & field coach this winter with the indoor squads.

Cross has has played a major role in two of the most successful runs in Waynesburg women's athletics history. The Yellow Jackets are the four-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) women's cross country champions, have won the last four PAC outdoor track & field titles and claimed back-to-back indoor track & field crowns in 2017 and 2018. 

She has been named the conference's Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year twice and was the 2017 Women's Indoor Coach of the Year.

From 2004 to 2007, Cross (then Michelle Propst) established herself as one of the top cross country runners in Waynesburg history. During her time as a competitor, she won four individual race titles, was a four-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) performer and was a six-time PAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The Colorado native was also a standout distance runner on the Waynesburg track & field team and excelled in the classroom. She earned a combined seven selections to the PAC Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll and was named to the ESPN Magazine Academic All-District II women’s track & field/cross country Second Team as a senior.

Cross graduated a semester early with a cumulative 3.83 grade-point average (GPA) as an English/secondary education major and also earned a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-academic selection in 2005.

On April 21, 2014, Cross showcased her distance running prowess when she competed in the 2014 Boston Marathon. She finished the world famous race in 3:42.35.

Michelle resides in Waynesburg with her husband Matt, who is also a Waynesburg graduate and an assistant coach with the Waynesburg University men’s soccer team. The two have a son, Gilbert, and a daughter, Wilhelmina.Â
