Tonya Lewis returns for her third season as an assistant coach for the men and women’s track and field teams and will work primarily with the team’s throwers.

Lewis, who was a four-year thrower for the Yellow Jackets, was also a team captain for two seasons. She held the shot put school record for three seasons, current team member, Carly Schubert, successfully broke Lewis’ school record during the 2008-09 season. Lewis was also a member of Waynesburg’s basketball team.

Lewis graduated from Waynesburg University in 2009 after majoring in biology and environmental science. She is currently in the MAT program at Waynesburg and plans on teaching biology and special education at the high school level.

During her first season coaching, Lewis also served as an adjunct professor for Waynesburg University’s biology department by teaching different environmental science labs. Currently, she tutors students at Westmoreland County Community College in Greene County.

She is USA Track and Field Level 1-certified as a coach.

Lewis graduated from Ringgold High School in 2005, where she was a four-year letterman in basketball and a three-year letterman in softball.
