Waynesburg University Athletics

Matt Blair is entering year five of his second stint as an assistant wrestling coach at Waynesburg University this season.

Prior to joining Ron Headlee’s staff in 2008, Blair was on former head coach Roger Foreman’s staff for three years in the mid 1990’s. Blair has also spent three years as an assistant coach at Waynesburg Central High School, where he worked along side Headlee and fellow assistant coach John Yates.

During his days on the mat as a competitor, Blair enjoyed success at both the high school and college levels. At WCHS, where Blair graduated from in 1989, he was three-time letter-winner and finished as high as third at the PIAA state tournament.

He moved on to West Virginia University and was a four-year letter-winner for the Mountaineers. Blair was also a two-time Division I national qualifier while in Morgantown.

Blair completed his bachelors degree in education from WVU in 1995 and went on to earn his masters in education from California University of Pa. in 2002.

Blair is currently employed by the Central Greene School District, and resides in Waynesburg with his wife Heidi and sons Nathan and Caleb.
