Dr. Chris Davis joined the athletic department as Director of Esports in January 2024.
Davis has led the Yellow Jacket esports program to three national championships. His breakout 2024-25 campaign featured two National Esports Collegiate Conference national championships. Waynesburg claimed the NECC Division IX national title in Overwatch and the NECC Division V national championship in Rocket League. Both squads captured NECC Conference championships along the way. The following season (2025-26), the Smash Brothers team captured the NECC Division V national championship following an undefeated regular season. He has a very impressive overall record of 268-209-6 (.555) across all game titles which includes four conference championships and four consecutive winning seasons.
During his short time with the program, he has added over 10 game titles, led the design and construction of the new console arena, and has grown the roster from 14 to 45 players with a program record 24 new athletes in the 2026-27 academic year.
Prior to coming to Waynesburg, Davis had a 22-year long career in the information technology field. While serving as Chief Information Officer at Virginia Wesleyan University (now Batten University) in Virginia Beach, he founded the university’s esports program in 2018. He was responsible for the design and building of the arena, equipment selection, game selection, player recruitment, and coaching. During his time there, the VWU esports team enjoyed sustained growth, success, and competed in both the NACE and ECAC esports leagues.
In addition to leading the esports program, Dr. Davis is also an Assistant Professor of Business Administration teaching business data analytics, mathematics, and esports management.
Davis earned a PhD in Instructional Management and Leadership from Robert Morris, an MSEd in Instructional Technology from Duquesne, and a BSEd in Secondary Education and BS in Psychology from Clarion. He is also a certified public school teacher in the state of Pennsylvania in the areas of Social Studies and Instructional Technology.
Davis currently lives in Washington, PA with his wife, Jennifer, and their six children, two of whom attend Waynesburg.
