Matt Tobey enters his first season as Waynesburg’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach after spending two years as graduate assistant at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg. Along with working with the Warrior defense, particularly the linebackers, Tobey also served as an assistant tight ends and running backs coach.
Prior to his two years on the ESU sideline, Tobey was a standout linebacker at another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) program, California (Pa.) University. He was named a first-team All-PSAC West selection at linebacker following his senior season and was twice named second-team All-PSAC West following his 2021 and 2022 campaigns.
He was recognized for his leadership as a Michael Perry Team Captain.
Tobey was also a star in the classroom. He was named to the Cal U AD Honor Roll for all eight semesters of his undergraduate work and was lauded as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete.
He graduated from Cal with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, before earning a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership of Sports Business from East Stroudsburg.
