WAYNESBURG (Oct. 17) – The Yellow Jackets suffered a 4-0 defeat to reigning conference-champion Westminster College on Tuesday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.
With the loss, Waynesburg falls to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Meanwhile, Westminster has won four of its last five matches to improve to 8-5-3 this year with a 3-0-1 mark in league play.
The Titans scored their first goal of the game in the 21st minute when senior forward Andrew Saporito scored his first of two goals of the day with an assist from senior Garrett Horvath. Saporito added his sixth goal (unassisted) of the season in the 35th minute and Westminster took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Westminster received a bonus in the 57th minute when its third goal of the game went into the Yellow Jackets' net via a Waynesburg own goal. Horvath assisted on the final Titan goal of the afternoon when he tallied a point on a goal by sophomore forward Brice Lott, his 10th of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Hunsberger registered a season-high 11 saves on 30 shot attempts in 90 minutes of action for the Yellow Jackets. Westminster freshmen Mike Codita and Lance Leathers combined for the shutout, making five saves on seven shot attempts.
Waynesburg continues conference play on Saturday, Oct. 20, with it takes on Thomas More College for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will be played on the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
