ALTOONA, Pa. (Sept. 20) – Playing their third-straight match against an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) team within a week, the Waynesburg University women's tennis team registered a 6-3 victory over Penn State-Altoona on Thursday afternoon.

Blakeley Mall claimed an 8-2 victory over Pie Capra and Amanda Rodi at the first position. Sophomore
Allie Horochak and
Jess Mally attempted their second-straight comeback in double play, but suffered an 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles.
Waynesburg increased its 2-1 after doubles play by winning four of the six singles matches. Garcia posted an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory over Capra at first singles, while Mall dealt Michael Paul a 6-2, 6-0 loss at the second slot.
“In singles play, we were as solid as we have been in awhile at the first two positions,” said 10th-year head coach
Ron Christman. “Laura played what was probably her best singles match from start to finish in her college career. The score wasn't an indicator of how tough every point was, but it was an indicator of how well Laura played the big points.”
Horochak rallied to win her match in three sets at third singles position. The sophomore lost the first set, 6-1, but pulled out a win 7-6 win in the second set, including a 7-3 tiebreaker, to even the match against Katherine Bonnin. Horochak then won the match tiebreaker, 10-5, to earn her first win of the season at No. 3 singles, as she moved up in the lineup due to an illness.
Junior
Evelyn Fabian added a 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth slot over Altoona's Jackie Bunn to her increase her team-leading singles victory total to four (tied with Mall).
Waynesburg will enjoy the weekend off before returning to conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Washington & Jefferson.
