WAYNESBURG (Sept. 25) – The Yellow Jackets swept doubles play and took four of the five completed singles match on their way to a 7-1 win over Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Tuesday evening.
The win marked the third-straight for the Waynesburg University women's tennis team, as it improved its record to 4-5 overall with a 2-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Presidents have lost three-straight matches and fall to 3-3 overall with a 2-3 record in conference action.
“We have gotten a total team efforts from everyone up and down the lineup in both singles and doubles the last four or five dual matches,” said 10th-year head coach
Ron Christman. “Things really started to come together last week and it's starting to show on the scoreboard.”
For the second time in three matches, the Yellow Jackets registered a sweep in doubles play. Junior

Blakeley Mall, who was named PAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week yesterday, teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles over Allison Johnston and Jules Novak. Sophomores

Jess Mally tallied an 8-6 win W&J's Kerri DiGiovanni and Alyssa Trasignant at the second slot. Junior

Britni Green completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Samantha Knapek and Sara Charley.
Singles play began with matches at the third, fifth and sixth positions and the Presidents nearly closed the deficit, as they forced two matches to three sets. Fabian posted a win at sixth singles for Waynesburg, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Charley. Horochak registered a 6-4, 7-5 victory over DiGiovanni at the fourth position after making a comeback in both sets to win the match.
Mall continued her impressive singles play, scoring a win for the Yellow Jackets with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Novak at the second position in the shortest match of the evening. Garcia claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Johnston at the first slot, avenging a loss to Johnston in last season's dual match against W&J.
Mally won the first set of her match against Trasignant at the fourth singles position by a 6-4 count and was serving with a 3-0 lead in the second set before the match was suspended due to darkness. The match between Mally and Trasignant will be completed in Washington, Pa., on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. per PAC rules.
Waynesburg continues PAC play on Thursday, Sept. 27, with a home match against Grove City.
