PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 24) – Shooting struggles plagued the Waynesburg women's basketball team as they dropped a 59-47 road contest to La Roche on Monday evening.
The Redhawks (2-2) opened up a 32-18 lead at halftime, but the Yellow Jackets (0-3) managed to close the gap before the end of the game by out-scoring their opponents 29-27 over the final 20 minutes.
La Roche out-shot Waynesburg from the field 38.6 percent to 25 percent. Both teams struggled from beyond the three-point arc, with the Jackets hitting on 17.6 percent (3-17) from down town, and the Redhawks made just two-of-13 three-pointers (15.4 percent).
Waynesburg was led by first-year junior Jen Scarborough, who put up a team-best 10 points on three-of-11 shooting. Sophomore Elisha Jones added eight points and eight rebounds on the night. Freshman point guard Hannah Hunter also chipped in eight points.
The La Roche offense was led by a trio of double-digit scorers, including Jaquaylla Kessler, who poured in a game-high 14 points and added a contest-best nine rebounds.
After playing three games over the last three days, the Jackets will have a long break before opening Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Dec. 3, when they head to Greenville to take on Thiel.
