PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 21) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball battled hard in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 26-15 first-half deficit as they fell 58-46 to La Roche at the Crons Classic, which was hosted by the Red Hawks.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2) had some problems with cold shooting in the first half, as they were only able to convert 25 percent of their shots (six-of-24), while the Red Hawks (3-0) found their stroke early, shooting 50 percent from the floor (11-of-22).
The Jackets put forth a better shooting performance in the second half and were only out-scored 32-21 by La Roche. The overall rebounding totals were also close, with the Jackets beating the Hawks on the board 31-30.
Junior guard Steven Iser put up his third-straight double-digit scoring effort of the season after racking up a team-high 11 points. He also led the Jackets in rebounding with seven. Senior guard Ryan Courneen also put up 11 points.
Freshman point guard Ben Altmeyer dished out a game-high four assists and had five points.
Three Red Hawks recorded double-digit scoring nights and the trio was led by Dylan Grazier, who racked up a game-high 14 points.
The Waynesburg men will make their home debut on Monday, Jan. 23, when they host Penn State-Greater Allegheny. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
