Waynesburg women fall to Grove City

Second half does in Yellow Jackets against Wolverines

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 14) – The Waynesburg women's basketball team couldn't make a three-point halftime lead stand up as they dropped a 62-41 home decision to Grove City on Saturday night.

The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 8-15 overall and 4-8 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, while the Wolverines improved to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in PAC action.

Thing started well for the home team as they got out to a 16-6 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the first half. However, GCC ended the first period on a 14-7 run to trim the Jacket lead to 23-20 at the end of the first period.

While the two teams played fairly evenly through the first 20 minutes of play, the second half definitely favored the Wolverines.

The visitors out-shot their hosts 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor, compared to Waynesburg's 17 percent (five-of-30) performance. Grove City was also better from long range, hitting on four-of-eight from downtown, while the Jackets made just one-of-12 from beyond the arc.

The Jackets also struggled with turnovers, turning the ball over 21 times, compared to Grove City doing it 13 times.

Thought it came in a losing effort, Waynesburg got a tremendous performance from sophomore forward Elisha Jones. She tied for the game lead with 16 points and added a contest-best 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Freshman point guard Hannah Hunter added 10 points for the Jackets and freshman forward Callie White chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.

Grove City was paced by the duo of sophomore forward Christina Slater and freshman guard Megan Gebrosky, who poured in 16 points each.

The Waynesburg women return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they travel to Washington to battle nationally-ranked Washington and Jefferson.
