WAYNESBURG,
Pa. (Feb. 21) – The Waynesburg women's basketball team couldn't answer some hot shooting by visiting Chatham on Saturday night as the Yellow Jackets dropped a 71-42 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to the Cougars on senior night.

The win ended the regular season for both teams. Waynesburg ended the regular season 8-17 overall and 4-10 in PAC play, while Chatham improved to 11-14 overall and 3-11 in conference action.

After Waynesburg took a 3-2 lead early in the game on an Elisha Jones three-pointer, Chatham went on a 13-1 lead to go up 15-4 with 12:33 left in the opening period. The Cougars never trailed after that mark. The Jackets were able to cut the deficit down to as little as three points (20-17) with 7:09 to go in the half, but that was as close as they would get to Chatham on the night.

After taking a 33-21 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Cougars came back on the court and shot 54 percent (13-of-24) from the floor in the second, drilled four-of-six three-pointers and made all eight of their free throw attempts to pull away for the victory.

Though it didn't lead to a Waynesburg win, Jones led all players on the night with 18 points and freshman point guard Hannah Hunter, who played all 40 minutes on the night, tied for the game lead with six rebounds and led all players with three assists.

Chatham was led by sophomore Barb Petty, who poured in a team-best 16 points and added six rebounds to a good night's work.

Waynesburg returns to action on Tuesday, when they head to Bethany for their first-round PAC playoff game against the Bison. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., with Waynesburg playing as the number-six seed, and the Bison claiming the number-three seed. The two teams split their two regular season meetings, with the Jackets beating Bethany on their home court 57-52.
