The Yellow Jackets took on Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe
Bethany College on Tuesday and used solid performances at every position to score a 9-0 shutout victory.

The win vaults the Jackets to 2-1 in PAC play, and 3-3 overall. The Bison fell to 0-6 on the year and 0-3 in conference action.

Waynesburg started quickly as the Jackets' number-two doubles tandem of sophomore Emile Khoury and freshman Peter Mally swiftly disposed of their opponents, 8-1.

Shortly after the number-two doubles match ended, the first singles team of senior Kevin Houseknecht and junior Jeff Canning won their match, 8-2, and the Jackets had a quick 2-0 advantage.

Senior Dustin Cozad and junior Adam Woodruff finished off the doubles matches with an 8-5 triumph over Bethany's Cory Winters and Chris Dalpra at number-three.

In singles play, Khoury again got the Jackets started by making quick work of his opponent at number-four, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Houseknecht was the next Jacket to take the court as he squared off against Dustin Opalka, a player who defeated the Jacket senior in 2008.

The Waynesburg senior showed Opalka how much he has improved over the course of a year, defeating the sophomore, 6-2, 6-2.

Prior to taking control in their matches, Canning and Mally each had close first sets at number-two and number-three respectively. Canning actually faced set point against Bethany's Levi Naylor before coming on strong and taking the match, 7-5, 6-1.

Mally lined up across from a formidable foe in fellow freshman Dalpra, but the first-year Jacket player also finished strong, winning 6-4, 6-0.

At fifth singles, Woodruff came out on top, 6-2, 6-1, while Cozad won at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-2.

Waynesburg returns to the courts on Thursday when they host Washington & Jefferson. The game is the second of three home contests this week and is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
