Men's tennis falls at Penn State-Altoona

Jackets drop 7-2 match to Lions

Box Score

ALTOONA, Pa. (Apr. 8) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team played a very good Penn State-Altoona team tightly on Wednesday, but losses in three of four matches that were decided by tie-breakers ultimately doomed the Yellow Jackets as they fell 7-2.

The defeat snaps a four-match win streak for the Jackets, who are now 5-4 on the season. The Lions improved to 7-2 overall.

Waynesburg got a good win at number-one doubles when senior Kevin Houseknecht and junior Jeff Canning teamed up to beat Steve James and Thomas Van Antwerp by the final of 8-2.

Altoona rebounded to take the final two doubles matches and followed by winning the top five singles matches, three of them by tie-breaker. The Yellow Jackets' lone singles win came courtesy of senior Dustin Cozad, who beat Justin Hess 6-4, 3-6 (6).

Waynesburg now turns its attention to the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa., which will host the 2009 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships on Apr. 17 and 18.
