WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov.2) – A pair of Waynesburg University junior men's soccer players were recently honored for their excellence on the field and in the classroom.
Forward Erick Burke and defender/midfielder David Floyd were both honored as members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 College Division Men's Soccer Teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Burke, who carries a cumulative 3.35 GPA as a criminal justice major, led the Yellow Jackets in goals (11) and total points (24) this past season. At the conclusion of the regular season, Burke also ranked third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in total points and second in goals. For his accomplishments he was lauded as a second-team selection.
Floyd, who boasts a 3.96 GPA as a communication major, was the leader of the Jacket defense for the third-straight season. He also tallied an assist this year and is a 2009 All-PAC honoree. Floyd was given the nod as a third-team pick.
To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's events and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
