MEADVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 20) – It was a great Saturday for the Waynesburg women's basketball team.

The Yellow Jackets overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to down the host-school Gators 71-68 at the Allegheny Invitational. The victory pushed the Jackets to 3-0 on the season and gave them their first tournament title under head coach Sam Jones.

After the Gators took a 38-29 lead into the locker room at halftime and turned it into a team-high 11-point advantage (40-29) with a quick two-pointer early in the second half, the Yellow Jackets fought back into the game with a 7-0 run to cut Allegheny's lead to 40-36 just under four minutes into the period.

With 13:11 remaining on the game clock, Waynesburg picked up its first lead of the contest (42-41) since moving ahead 8-7 with 14:49 to go in the first half. However, with 8:31 remaining in the contest, the Gators rebuilt an eight-point advantage at 59-51. The Jackets refused to give up and thanks to a 20-7 run over the next six-and-a-half minutes, grabbed a game-high five point advantage 71-66 with 1:53 showing on the clock.

Allegheny got a late two-pointer to cut the deficit down to three points with 1:20 showing on the clock, but the Jackets kept their opponents off the board to lock up the win.

The victorious Yellow Jackets were led by senior forward Elisha Jones, who was named Allegheny Invitational MVP after recording her third-straight double-double performance of the season. She poured in a season and game-high 24 points and tied sophomore teammate Brittany Spencer for the game high with 10 rebounds.

Junior point guard Hannah Hunter also earned all-tournament team honors after just missing out on a double-double. She went for 11 points, dished out a season and game-high nine assists and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior Morgan Hoone came off the bench to chip in 12 points to the winning effort.

The Jackets out-rebounded Allegheny 47 to 34 and held a 22-to-10 advantage in offensive rebounds.

Waynesburg will look to go to 4-0 on Tuesday, Nov. 23, when the Yellow Jackets hit the road to take on Ohio University Eastern.
