Waynesburg mat men compete at York quad

Crown and Lohr go 3-0 as Jackets go 1-1-1 on the day

YORK, Pa. (Nov. 20) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team went 1-1-1 at a quad-match hosted by Messiah College on Saturday.

 

After dropping a 22-15 bout to the host Falcons to open the day, the Yellow Jackets rebounded by taking down Division II opponent Lake Erie College 21-18. The Jackets finished up the day of competition by tying York 18-18.

 

Sophomore 125-pounder Alex Crown and freshman 149-pounder Luke Lohr both went 3-0 over the three contests. Crown's biggest win of the day came in the from of a 17-2 technical fall victory against Lake Erie. Lohr also picked up a bonus-point victory with a major decision against the Storm.

 

Junior Jared Roberts went 2-1 on the day and nearly upset York's nationally ranked 184-pounder Alex Martocello in a 3-1 decision. Junior 165-pounded Alex Evanoff also went 2-1 and freshman heavyweight Josh Mihalik earned a match-clinching win by fall over Lake Erie's Alex Palmer.

 

Freshman 133-pounder Levin Hosselrode, Junior 174-pounder Jon Sanko, sophomore heavyweight Marty Kisla and freshman 157-pounder Sam Lombardo picked up a win each on the day.

 

After wrestling six dual matches over the past two Saturdays, Waynesburg will get two weeks to rest up before returning to competition on Saturday, Dec. 4, when they participate in the always difficult Ohio Northern Tournament.
