Box Score

BETHANY, W.Va. (Dec. 4) – Led by a pair of double-double performances, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team won its sixth game in a row to open the 2010-11 season by beating Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Bethany 60-49 on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (6-0, 2-0) are on their best run to open a season since the 1992-93 season when they won the PAC championship. The loss dropped the Bison to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference action.

Things didn't start well for the Jackets as the Bison built up a 15-5 advantage over the first 11 minutes of action. However, the Yellow Jackets turned things around before halftime by going on a 25-0 run over the final half of the first period to put the visitors up 30-15 before heading to the locker room.

Momentum swung back into Bethany's favor over the first nine minutes of the second period and they were able to trim the deficit down to three (40-37) with 10:54 to go in the game. However, the Jackets rebounded and rebuilt a double-digit lead over the stretch run of the contest to seal the victory.

Senior forward Elisha Jones recorded her fourth double-double of the season by pouring in a game-high 21 points and ripping down 11 rebounds. The senior standout now sits at 999 collegiate points. Sophomore forward Brittany Spencer also reached double digits in scoring and rebounding in one game for the second time this year with 11 points and 11 boards. Junior point guard Hannah Hunter chipped in 10 points to the victory while playing all 40 minutes. She also tied for the game high with four assists.

The Jackets also put up a strong defensive front by holding Bethany to just 21.9 percent shooting from the floor.

The Waynesburg women's hoopsters have a week off until they are back in action when they travel to Grove City to face PAC rival Grove City on Saturday, Dec. 11. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
