GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 16) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team got their season going on Tuesday when they traveled to the Greensburg Racquet Club to face Saint Vincent.

Despite two victories each from freshman Jon Anderson and sophomore Jason Logan, the Yellow Jackets dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to the Bearcats, who were also opening their season.

The teams split the singles matches with Saint Vincent, claiming victories at the first through third spots, before the Yellow Jackets bounced back with wins at numbers four, five and six singles. Trailing 3-0, Waynesburg got their first win of the season courtesy of senior Adam Woodruff, who downed Tyler Camione 6-3, 7-5. Logan followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win at fifth singles and Anderson tied the match with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Dan Waldow at the number-six spot.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats added wins at first and second doubles to clinch the match. Anderson and Logan prevented a doubles sweep for the home team with an 8-3 win over Shawn Lehman and Ben Clark.

The deciding match of the contest came at number-two doubles, where the Saint Vincent combo of Camione and Sal Certo pulled out a 9-8 (5) victory over Woodruff and senior Jeff Canning.

The Jackets return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 20, when they travel to the Westwood Racquet Club to face Penn State Behrend. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
