Men's basketball travels to Saint Vincent

Yellow Jackets fall to Bearcats 73-47

Box Score

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 12) – For the first 20 minutes of action, the Waynesburg University men's basketball team played right with their hosts from Saint Vincent on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats proved to be poor hosts to the Yellow Jackets, as they pulled away for a 73-47 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory. The loss dropped the Jackets to 5-10 on the season and 2-4 in PAC play. The win moved Saint Vincent to 10-5 on the year and 3-2 in conference action.

Waynesburg trailed by just three (28-25) following the conclusion of the first half. During those first hard-fought 20 minutes of play, the Yellow Jackets were able to take a 25-24 lead with just over three minutes to go until halftime. However, Saint Vincent scored the final four point of the half to regain the lead.

The Bearcats pulled away in the second half by out-scoring their opponents 45-22 over the final 20 minutes of play to seal up the victory.

Junior forward Lou Galante came off the bench to lead Waynesburg in scoring with 14 points. Another junior forward, James Allenby, pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Waynesburg hoopsters will try to snap their current three-game losing streak on Saturday, when they travel to Washington & Jefferson to face off with the Presidents. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
