PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 19) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team played its third-straight road game to open the 2011-12 season on Saturday. Unfortunately, it wasn't a very pleasant trip to La Roche College, as the Yellow Jackets ended up on the short end of a 75-54 score.
 
The Jackets (1-2) suffered through a cold shooting night, hitting on just 32.7 percent of their attempts from the floor. The Redhawks (2-0), on the other hand, posted a respectable 49.2 percent shooting effort on their way to victory. The home team didn't take long to establish a big lead, as the Jackets fell behind 9-0 over the first 4:24 of action. La Roche built up first-half leads as large as 14 points before going into the locker room with a 42-30 advantage at halftime.
 
The Hawks didn't relent in the second half and constructed leads as large as 25 points before picking up the victory. Along with a superior shooting effort, La Roche also out-scored the Jackets 42-14 in the paint and out-rebounded the visiting team by a 35-25 margin.
 
Though they came in a losing effort, a pair of solid freshman efforts has to make Waynesburg and head coach Mark Christner optimistic about the program's future. First-year forward Jason Propst led his team with 14 points, while fellow first-year reserve, Jacob Fleegle, chipped in 10 points of his own. Another bench player, senior guard Larry Alexander, added 10 points of his own on the night. The reserves did all they could to pick up the slack left by the starting five, which shot just two-for-19 from the floor and committed nine turnovers.
 
Waynesburg will look to regain its winning ways on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when the Yellow Jackets play their first home game of the year against Baldwin-Wallace. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
