BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Dec. 7) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team showed tremendous heart in battling back from a double-digit halftime deficit and giving Geneva all it could handle in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) clash on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets came back from 14 down at halftime to pull within two points of the Golden Tornadoes, before coming up just short in a 77-72 contest.
The Yellow Jackets (2-6, 0-3) fell behind 8-0 through the first 2:21 of competition and trailed by as many as 18 (27-9) before heading into the locker room on the short end of a 40-26 score. However, things turned around for the visiting team in the second period.
Geneva (2-6, 1-2) continued to hold a commanding lead through most of the final half of play, but with less than two minutes left to play, the Jackets cranked up their game and gave the Tornadoes all they could handle. With the home team leading 73-61 and 1:43 showing on the clock, Waynesburg went on an 11-1 surge that included four different players contributing to the comeback that made the score 74-72 with 25 seconds left to play. Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes knocked down three key free throws to seal the victory.
Senior guard
Larry Alexander had his best scoring night as a collegiate player, pouring in a game-high 25 points on nine-of-15 shooting, including five-of-nine makes from three-point range. Senior forward
Aaron Cromwell added 11 points on five-of-10 shooting and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Freshman forward

Patrick Crawford contributed 10 points and four rebounds a-piece.
Geneva held a 43-to-33 edge in rebounding and connected on an efficient 52 percent of its tries from the floor, while Waynesburg actually made more total field goals (29-to-26). The Golden Tornadoes also had an important advantage at the free throw line, hitting on 17-of-32 attempts, as compared to the Jackets' very efficient nine-of-10 tries. The visiting team also did a fine job of protecting the ball, giving up only eight turnovers, to Geneva's 16.
Waynesburg will try to snap out of its current three-game losing streak on Saturday, when the Yellow Jackets travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on NCAA Division II member Malone. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
