Box Score

GENEVA, Pa. (Dec. 7) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team won its third-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday night when it travelled to Geneva. The Yellow Jackets combined a strong shooting night with stingy team defense to take down the Golden Tornadoes 78-28.

The Jackets (5-2, 3-0) shot a season-high 57.6 percent from the floor, including a 64.3 percent performance in the second half. Waynesburg also held their opponents to a season-low 20.4 percent from the floor and forced the Tornadoes (1-6, 0-3) into 21 turnovers.

The visiting team scored the first 19 points of the game over the opening 8:48 of competition. Geneva didn't score its first points until knocking down a pair of free throws nine minutes into the contest. Waynesburg maintained control of the matchup from the get-go and led 40-13 at halftime.

The second half got off to much the same start as the first as Waynesburg scored the first 14 points after returning from its locker room. The Jackets led by as many as 51 points in the second half before closing out the win.

The Yellow Jacket offense featured three double-digit scorers, including freshman Hayden Giuliani, who totaled a game-high 16 points on eight-of-11 shooting, while also swiping away a contest-best three steals. Sophomore Elaine Hasek chipped in 12 points, while senior point guard Hannah Hunter added 12 points, a game-high eight rebounds and a contest-best six assists.

Waynesburg out-rebounded Geneva by a 43-to-24 margin. The Jackets also connected on 41 percent of their tries from three-point range (seven-of-17), while holding the Golden Tornadoes to just one make from long range in 10 tries. The Jackets will go for their fourth-straight win on Saturday, when they host another conference opponent in Chatham. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
