WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 12) – For the second time this season, the Waynesburg University men's basketball team hung with Saint Vincent through the first 20 minutes of action during Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown.
The Yellow Jackets (5-18, 2-11) led 33-32 at the half, and jumped out to a 36-32 lead on three Erik Noone free throws to start the second half. That, however, would be the final lead for the Jackets as the Bearcats (16-7, 8-4) outscored the Jackets 50-26 over the remainder of the game to secure an 82-62 victory.
Waynesburg was led in scoring by junior forward Jeff Young, who racked up 16 points, including 15 in the first half. The third-year standout also pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Another junior forward, Lou Galante, added 14 points and three rebounds off the bench.
One bright spot for Waynesburg was a resurgence in their three-point shooting. The Yellow Jackets shot a respectable 39 percent from long range (10-of-26) for the evening. The Jackets also won the turnover battle by a 15-to-12 margin.
The Jackets will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, February 16, as the Washington & Jefferson Presidents roll into town for another conference showdown.
