Men's basketball drops final home game of the season

Yellow Jackets can't get past W&J on senior night, fall 56-42

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 16) – The good news is the Waynesburg men's basketball team played a much closer game with Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday than when they squared off earlier this season. Unfortunately, the eventual outcome was the same as W&J defeated the Yellow Jackets 56-42 at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Shooting woes ultimately foiled the Jackets' (5-19, 2-12) plans for a win on senior night, as the home team connected on just 29 percent of its tries from the floor (16-of-55). Waynesburg went particularly cold from three-point range (four-of-19) and from the free throw line (six-of-16).

After trailing 27-18 at halftime, Waynesburg enjoyed a little more scoring success, but were still out-scored 29-24 over the final 20 minutes of play. Junior forward Jeff Young put together a double-double on a team-high 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior forward Lou Galante chipped in 11 points off the bench.

W&J took game one of the season series by the score of 86-45 back on Jan. 15. Prior to tip-off, Waynesburg honored its two senior members, Steven Iser and Erik Noone, as they played their final game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

The Yellow Jackets will play their final regular season game of the year on Saturday, when they travel to Geneva to face the Golden Tornadoes. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
