Men's tennis rolls to first win of the season

Yellow Jackets take down Pitt-Greensburg 8-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 24) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team rolled to its first win of the season with an 8-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday.

 

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) opened up the cold, overcast afternoon by sweeping through the match's three doubles matches. Senior Emile Khoury and junior Peter Mally got things started with an 8-3 win at first doubles. Junior Jason Logan and sophomore Jon Anderson followed with an 8-0 triumph at second doubles before freshman Nate Huffman and sophomore Joe Kromer wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory at third doubles.

 

After the Bobcats (0-2) picked up their lone win at first singles, Waynesburg responded by winning flights two through six in the singles ranks, each in straight sets. Khoury picked up an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles and was followed by Logan's 6-2, 6-4 victory at number-three singles. Anderson (6-0, 6-0), Huffman (6-3, 6-3) and Kromer (6-2, 6-1) were victorious at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to close out the victory. 

 

When Waynesburg returns to action, they'll open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday, March 26, when the Westminster Titans come to town. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
