WASHINGTON, Pa. (March 29) – After coming one point short of a win in its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the season, the Waynesburg Men's Tennis team rolled to an 8-1 conference victory at Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday.
The Jackets (2-2, 1-1) swept all three of their doubles matches for the second time in three matches and improved to 8-1 in doubles action over those three contests. The reigning PAC Men's Player of the Week Emile Khoury teamed up with junior Peter Mally to roll to an 8-0 victory at first doubles to open the day. Junior Jason Logan and sophomore Jon Anderson followed with an 8-5 triumph at second doubles before the pair of freshman Nate Huffman and sophomore Joe Kromer completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at number-three doubles.
Waynesburg continued its winnings ways in the singles portions of the match against the Presidents (0-3, 0-2). It took Mally some work, but he managed to put away W&J's David Dubois 7-5, 3-6, 6-5 at the number-one slot. Khoury followed with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory at the number-two spot. The Presidents stayed alive with a win at third singles, but the Jackets sealed up the match when Anderson took the fourth singles match 6-3, 6-1.
Huffman and Kromer put the finishing touches on the win at the numbers five and six slots. Huffman picked up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the fifth spot and Kromer concluded the day with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback triumph at sixth singles.
The Yellow Jackets return to non-conference competition on Thursday, March 31, when they head to Penn State Altoona to face the Lions. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
