WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 26) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team won for the second time in five days when it downed Bethany 5-4 on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets are now 5-6 on the year and 4-3 in PAC play. The loss dropped the Bison to 6-7 on the season and 3-4 in conference action.
Waynesburg got off to a slow start by dropping two of the three doubles matches. The sophomore tandem of Jason Logan and Jon Anderson picked up the lone doubles win, an 8-4 win over James Peterson and Alex Henry.
Trailing 2-1, the Jackets would go to work in singles, as Emile Khoury got things started at two singles, defeating James Peterson in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 and 6-0. Waynesburg would again find itself trailing 4-2 with three matches remaining, and needed wins from four, five and six singles to pull out the win.
The young players answered the call for the Jackets, as sophomore Jon Anderson won his second match of the day when he defeated Dustin Maiolo in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3. Freshman Nate Huffman tied the score at 4-4 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Henry at five singles. “Emergency recruit” senior David Floyd stepped up big to give Waynesburg the win, as he took down Evan Oslund in three sets, 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4.
The Waynesburg men will look to carry momentum from the win into the PAC Championships on April 30 in Erie, Pa.
