Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 29) – The Waynesburg University baseball was defeated by the Washington and Jefferson Presidents 4-3 in 11 innings on Friday.

With the loss, the Jackets fall to 12-21 overall and 7-9 in Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) play, while W&J improves to 16-14 on the year and 12-4 in the PAC.

W&J got out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, utilizing three hits and an error on the Jackets defense to account for their two runs. The Jackets finally responded in the fifth inning, as Tim Chilcote led off the frame with a single up the middle. After Dan Buzzard walked to load the bases, Corey Goeggelman laid down a squeeze bunt to score the runner and gather an infield hit. However, the Jackets left all three runners stranded on-base.

Waynesburg tied the game at 2-2 when junior Nick Berdine connected for a solo home run, his second of the season. Mike Neckerman followed Berdine with a double to right center, and later scored on a Buzzard ground out to give the Jackets a 3-2 lead.

W&J immediately answered in the seventh, scoring on an RBI single to center field. The two teams needed extra frames to finish, as a single and an error in the 11th allowed the game-winning run to score for the Presidents.

Tim Kreke took the loss for the Jackets, having thrown an impressive ten and a third innings. Kreke allowed just three earned runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out three.

The Jackets will get another crack at the Presidents, as the Jackets travel to Washington, Pa. tomorrow for a PAC double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
