WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 28) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team took its frustration over back-to-back two-point losses out against Geneva College on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back as they picked up a 78-42 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Golden Tornadoes on Saturday.
The Jackets (14-5, 9-3) built up a 39-16 halftime lead and led by as many as 38 points (78-40) before finishing off their win over Geneva (3-16, 2-10). The Tornadoes got as close as 21 points (47-26) to coming back against the Jackets in the second half, before the home team went on a 12-2 run to take a 59-28 advantage on its way to the victory.
Waynesburg held advantages in rebounding (37-to-27), field goal shooting (35-of-70 to 14-of-45), turnovers (15-to-29) and assists (18-to-6) during the win. The Jacket attack featured a quartet of double-digit scorers that was paced by junior guard
Jessi Drayer, who poured in a game-high 19 points on nine-of-13 shooting. Junior forward
Paige Pearce tallied 14 points on seven-of-12 shooting, and also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Junior guard
Brittany Spencer and freshman forward
Rachel Lovely chipped in 10 points each on five-of-eight and five-of-seven shooting, respectively. Senior point guard
Hannah Hunter dished out a game-high eight assists.
The Jackets will look to keep their winning ways going on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when they travel to Chatham to face the Cougars in another PAC battle. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
